Hamden’s location offers easy access to both I-91 and the Merritt Parkway for convenient commuting. An active Parks and Recreation department and Arts Commission provides plenty of activities all year long. Annual events include the summer concert series, community theater, Fourth of July fireworks, farmers markets, and Fall Festival. There is an abundance of recreational opportunities among numerous parks, ball fields, tennis courts, skating rink, plus public and private golf courses. The most favorite recreational areas in town include Sleeping Giant State Park with fishing and more than 30 miles of hiking trails, Brooksvale Park which features a terrific animal farm and the Farmington Canal Linear Trail that runs the length of the entire town for walking, jogging or biking.
Residents can take advantage of a bustling town center and “Magic Mile” of shops and plazas. Dining options offer everything from fine dining, pubs and family fare to a variety of ethnic cuisine. Hamden is also home to Quinnipiac University and the Paier College of Art.
