Ansonia CT Town Info

Located in the Naugatuck Valley, and bisected by the Naugatuck River, Ansonia is a small city that prides itself on its large sense of community and neighborhood spirit. Ansonia’s easy access to major thoroughfares such as Route 8, 34 and the Merritt Parkway is one of its many appealing factors for residents.

A small town feeling that retains some of its old town character exudes throughout the community. The Historic District is a microcosm of architectural styles throughout history with homes dating from 1700 to 1830. The historic district is part of Ansonia’s vibrant downtown, which features numerous businesses and specialty shops.

Residents can find a wealth of recreational facilities that include parks, playgrounds, ball fields, tennis courts, running tracks and the Farmington Canal Greenway walking and biking trail. The town is very strong in youth activities such as scouting, Little League, football, soccer, basketball and cheerleading. One of the city’s treasures is the 104-acre Ansonia Nature Center which offers community gardens, fishing and skating pond, hiking trails and nature exhibits.

High School football is very big in the city and the Ansonia Chargers have been among the state’s top teams for many years, with the annual Ansonia-Naugatuck game being one of the highlights of the year for residents in both cities.
