The US Department of Energy/ Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy offers a program to the residential building industry to improve the energy efficiency of new homes known as Building Technologies Program (BTP). By developing, demonstrating, and deploying cost-effective solutions, BTP strives to reduce energy consumption across the residential building sector by at least 50% by 2030. To earn the ENERGY STAR, a home must meet strict guidelines for energy efficiency set by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).
