Nestled along the banks of the Housatonic and Naugatuck Rivers in the Naugatuck Valley, the town of Seymour embodies the charm of classic “small-town” America. One of America’s first industrial villages, today, Seymour is a prosperous center for business and light industry, yet hasn’t sacrificed its bucolic character. A number of working farms are still in existence and Seymour’s rolling hills and picturesque countryside including hundreds of acres dedicated to open space to maintain a rural atmosphere.
Seymour's access to Routes 8 and 84 as well as 34 and 67, offers an easy commute for residents, as well as making the town attractive to business and industry. The town takes great pride in the quality of life it offers and places a high importance on education. Sports programs and recreational facilities include hiking trails, playgrounds, ball fields, a skate park, BMX bike park, tennis courts and indoor pool. Little-Laurel Lime Ridge Park is noted for its limestone caves, hiking trails and spectacular views of the Housatonic River and Valley. The Housatonic and Naugatuck Rivers provide plenty of opportunity for fishing, boating, kayaking and canoeing.
The revitalized downtown features quaint brick sidewalks, old fashioned street lamps, Victorian buildings, antique and specialty shops and restaurants all within walking distance of each other. The town also boasts two movie theaters – the historic art deco Strand Theater and a multiplex theater. Popular annual events include craft and antique fairs, farmers markets, summer outdoor concerts, community parades, including the annual Christmas Parade and the hugely popular Pumpkin Festival.
